Bilkent Middle School (Özel Bilkent Ortaokulu), has been a candidate school for the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate for the past three years (IB) and is having its autorisation visit in February 2018. The Primary and High School schools are already IB World Schools, running both the PYP and DP programmes. The Middle School invites applications from suitably qualified teachers to teach English to students studying English as a second language. The school seeks highly motivated English teachers with a strong sense of responsibility, wishing to work in a professionally demanding environment, as part of a team of national and international teaching staff.

Bilkent Primary, Middle and High Schools are on the campus of Bilkent University, one of Turkey’s most prestigious universities. The schools provide teachers with a professional, stimulating place to work, with opportunities for further professional development including official IB training workshops and the opportunity to study for an MA in Curriculum and Instruction within the University’s Graduate School of Education, provided entry criteria are met.

Middle School Positions (Grades 5-8)

The Özel Bilkent Middle School is embarking on the authorization process for the International Baccalaureate MYP Program. This is an exciting opportunity for English language teachers to gain specialist training and experience in this prestigious programme, and to work alongside other subject teachers to create an integrated curriculum embodying the principles of an ‘internationally-minded education’ within a constructivist perspective.

In order to enhance English language skills in the Middle School, children in Grades 5-8 follow an intensive English programme which consists of 17 periods a week in Grade 5, and 10 periods a week in Grades 6-8, alongside their regular subject classes. The majority of children entering Grade 5 have already learnt English from an early age (Pre-K through Grade 4). The aim of the intensive programme is to further increase English language fluency and prepare them in the longer term for participation in the IB Diploma Programme.

The school is seeking qualified ESL/EFL teachers, ideally with experience teaching English to young learners of middle school age (10 to 14).

Ideally all applicants must hold a university degree in English, a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, and minimum two years full time teaching experience. CELTA, ICELT, DELTA or equivalent TEFL certificates also an advantage. However, the school is willing to consider applicants whose degree is in another field, but who can demonstrate a suitable profile for teaching young learners, subject to approval by the Ministry of Education.
